Hi, My name is Steph Orange. I breed Labrador Retrievers on the Sunshine Coast in QLD

(Breeder's Prefix "Mudtales") mostly for Service Dogs Associations.

A bit about me: I have done extensive research into canine nutrition and canine behaviour and training which began with my long term association with Guide Dogs QLD and Seeing Eye Dogs Australia. At "Mudtales" we have bred several successful working Guide Dogs and are currently breeding a litter of puppies for Smart Pups Assistance Dogs For Special Needs Children 

At Pet Tales we specialize in a complete raw B.A.R.F diet called Raw 4 Paws that is a human grade mix of 80% meat, 20% raw veges, ground bone,organs and essential minerals with NO grain fillers, NO preservatives and NO chemicals added. B.A.R.F is an acronym  for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food and research has shown the BARF diet to be the most apprpriate diet for our beloved canines and felines. Most pet owners I speak to have previously bought some mince or chicken necks, frames, bones etc from the butcher and supplemented this with dried food believing that this will provide a complete and balanced diet for their dog. 

100 % raw food is what dogs and cats were naturally born to eat and, if they were in their natural environment, a complete raw diet would obviously be their diet of choice. Our pets are being denied their evolutionary diet with modern day manufactured synthetic cooked dried diets which are loaded with grains, preservatives, by-products, MSG (salt) and long chemical words that no one can pronounce! (These additives make dried food taste good so pets appear to enjoy it and, sadly, owners feel good about feeding it to them and often overfeed!) Feeding your pet doesn't need to be rocket science, it is common sense to feed them a natural diet that is raw and biologically appropriate for their species. 

Feeding our dogs only on raw meat from the butcher will cause health problems as meat alone is lacking in certain essential minerals and is therefore NOT a complete diet for your dog, especially if the meat is NOT human grade.

So what options do we have? We can grind up fresh raw vegetable, combine it with human grade meat from the butcher for usually more than $10 per kg and grind up some bones and organs and mix together, ensuring we get the ratio of meat:organs:bone:veges (no grains) EXACTLY balanced and then also add ingredients like raw eggs, flaxseed oil, kelp, garlic etc Anyone who has actually done this will tell you it is a time consuming and expensive exercise and at the end of it you can't even be sure you have the balance right. Who even has time to do this?????
